The Suzuki Mission:
To develop in young children a lifelong love
of learning through honoring each child’s natural talent and ability in partnership with parents.

teachers - our hiring process

The Suzuki School seeks to hire teachers who have a passion for early childhood education, a genuine interest in how young children learn and develop, strong self-directed teaming skills, as well as the emotional maturity to work effectively with their co-teachers and students.  We seek educators who view teaching young children as a career and who seek a school where professional and personal growth is supported.

A multi-step hiring process is followed to find the teachers who will best succeed in the collaborative environment:

  1. We first advertise for teachers in the newspaper and at different online job posting sites. From time to time, we recruit at job fairs.
  2. Candidates are required to submit a resume and an application and must be prescreened before scheduling an on-site interview. If you wish for your child to attend Suzuki School, we ask that you submit a student application during the interview process so that we can determine if there is availability.
  3. During the initial interview, we will discuss with the teacher their credentials and interest in early childhood education. We will also describe our work environment and expectations to ensure that they have an understanding and interest in our approach to teaching. We ask that prospective teachers take the time to read our website and to understand the Suzuki methodology before attending the interview!
  4. After the on-site interview and a successful completion of a background check, candidates are scheduled to teach in a classroom for a period of time, generally two to ten days depending on prior work experience. (Please note: Individuals substituting for Suzuki are not considered employees of the school.)
  5. After the candidate has been in a classroom, the teaching team completes an evaluation of the teacher. If the team believes the prospective teacher is a good fit for the school, the teacher will complete an on-line assessment that will assess his/her teaming behaviors. We will also conduct reference checks at this time. If these last steps indicate that the fit will be a strong one, the prospective teacher is then eligible to be become a Teacher Candidate and is assigned a classroom position. After a teacher is hired, she is assigned a classroom team based on openings and upon his/her particular background.
  6. At the start of each session, the teaching team assignments are re-evaluated, and a teacher may request a different age or campus; ultimately, however, the classroom placement is based on the needs of the children and the school. We seek teachers who are interested in developing collaborative teaming skills (which requires clear and consistent communications and feedback) as well as a demonstrated desire to improve as a teacher.

We only offer only full-time positions for teachers, and each teacher must be available between the hours of 7 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. We follow a 12-month program and only hire teachers who wish to work for the full year. We offer a competitive benefits package including paid time off, winter and spring holiday closings, a medical plan, a 401K plan, and a life insurance plan.
